The perfect smoky tea with a sweet finish

In the Banzhang Nadameng reservoir, a top-quality nature reserve on the famous Bulang Mountain, grows the sought-after pu-erh tea known for its smokiness and lasting aftertaste. Tea masters hand-pick the buds and leaves from tea trees, heat them over a large pan, and shape them by hand-rolling before stone-pressing into a traditional tea cake. The resulting tea is full of buds and leaves in beautiful shades of olive that brown as they age naturally over time.

This tea also has been served at L'appart, a Michelin-starred restaurant in NYC that offers a French tasting menu prepared by chef Nicolas Abello.

    Old school meets new

I'm new to good green tea and also had never heard of pu-erh tea until recently. A reference in an article led me to Mansa and their Smoky Pu-erh. The guides were helpful and the tea is so very nice. I'm just coming off of years of drinking coffee and my experience of drinking this tea is one of calm, patience, and soothing, when I enjoy several small cups instead of pounding down a big mug of coffee. Since I'm a backpacker and camper, I went looking for a durable and light tea service, which I found at Silverant, an outdoor company that owns and runs their own titanium plant, controlling all design, manufacturing, and distribution. Their double-wall pour-over with a mesh inner steeping sleeve allows me to easily rinse the leaves in an initial steep (without having to be careful about straining the rinse water -- just lift the basket after a few seconds and then drop it back in for the first proper steep). I also use their titanium double-wall cup. Seems weird to use a space age metal for an ancient tea practice, but it's a good pairing for my purposes, and I get to enjoy really nice and perfectly brewed tea in a kind of high-tech gongfu ceremony. I love the pu-erh and will try some other greens from Mansa.

    Excellent everyday raw Pu’er

I really like this for an everyday tea. The second infusion consistently is my favorite, where orchid and rose notes up and make me…make me swoon and smile and out comes the ‘ahhhhhhhhhh’.

Second time around just as good

This was a gift years ago and I savored it for the whole time, and was sad to run out. I decided to stock up and get the big bag and it's just as good as the last batch. I love the smokiness and clarity, and even though I bet there are many other teas to try, it's also great to have a reliable standby.

    Bulang 2015 Raw Pu'er

I personally wasn't a huge fan of the musky scents and flavors, however I did enjoy the floral notes and hazelnut undertones. Quite a lovely raw Pu'er.

    The tea itself was delicious!

Opening the bag straight away I got a whiff of walnut aroma which opens up to hay, cedar, and florals with a rinse. Jammy apricot and a hint of tobacco on the palate, the cedar and hay returning for a long finish.
