Taste the best of Oriental Beauty

Do you know the fascinating origin story of Oriental Beauty (also known as Dongfang Meiran, 東方美人茶, Eastern Beauty)?

It begins with a Taiwanese tea farmer whose tea plants were damaged by leafhoppers one day. Rather than forgoing his harvest, he decided to process the bitten tea leaves into tea as usual. When he took his tea to a local tea merchant, the merchant praised him for the outstanding quality of his tea and paid him TWICE the price of his usual tea! In the late 19th century, 15kg of Oriental Beauty cost was equivalent to a house in Taiwan.

Because tea makers can only make this tea when the leafhopper populations are high enough and when the weather conditions are suitable, our Oriental Beauty is handmade in small batches with limited quantities available. Making Oriental Beauty tea is laborious, with tea farmers carefully selecting and handpicking only the leaves attacked by jassids (jacobiasca formosana).

For your immersive tea experience, we also include these in your tea order:

    • a short digital magazine that explains the history, processing, brewing method, and flavor profile in depth

    • guided tea tasting recording led by our Founder & Certified Tea Sommelier

Expect an incredibly complex and balanced cup of sweet tasting, fruity flavor and slight spice with citrus, muscatel, peach, honey, and cinnamon notes with hints of rose.

Tasting Notes:  rose, muscatel, lychee, peach, honey

      it's all here

Very flavorful tea, with a bouquet that gives it all away. Amazing flavors of melon, apricots, a slight peach, honey, a trace of wood and leather, and orchids along with a hint of honeysuckle. truly an amazing tea !!

      11/10 Flavor Profiles!

This is a great one! 11/10! A little buttery, sweet corn, butterscotch, honeycomb taste, like the wax without the super sweetness.

      Not the typical Oolong Tea

I did a full tea time with this last week and was amazed with the continual fruit. Its not like the oolongs I'm used to from Wuyi or the tawainese. Very different. Kind of like the surprise you get from dandelion jelly :) you think it's bitter then you are so surprised!
